Laurelle Augustyn

Laurelle Augustyn is a singer-songwriter from Stouffville, Ontario who performs regularly within York Region and the GTA. Her debut album, “Lullaby”, produced by Kevin Ker of Epidemic Music Group, was released in March 2018. Blending elements of folk, roots and rock music, Laurelle’s songs are intimate and soulful with strong vocals and a rockin’ band.

Ben Hudson Band

Ben Hudson is a country singer-songwriter from Uxbridge, Ontario. His smooth, rich vocals have been compared to Josh Turner and Brothers Osborne although his country-rock influenced songwriting is similar to that of Eric Church and Aaron Lewis. His self-titled EP was released in early 2016, gaining the attention of CMT Canada who made him their "Fresh Face" artist and also earned him a nomination at the 2016 CMAO Awards for "Rising Star."

 

In June of 2016, he released his first single "Redneck Summer" to country radio. In its first week, the single was in the top 5 DMDS downloads and added into rotation at many major market stations across Canada. This strong debut helped secured a spot at the inaugural CMT Music Fest. Topcountry.ca named him one of their top artists to watch in 2017 and the Country Music Association of Ontario selected him as their January 2017 "Artist of the Month." Ben recently opened for Juno Award Winner Brett Kissel on his 2017 "Ice, Snow & 30 Below" tour and his 2018 "We Were That Song" tour. He is currently in studio working on his debut full length album set for release in early 2018.

Melissa and John Lemme

 Melissa and John Lemme, daughter and dad, have been singing together in Newmarket and surrounding area for more than 10 years. While they both mainly perform as solo artists, they do shows together as a duo and also with sisters, Moira and Michelle. Moira, Melissa & Michelle Lemme, also perform as “One Last Name”.

 

Between the two of them you will hear a lot of familiar songs, especially if you are fans of the Dixie Chicks and James Taylor! They strive to bring a comfort and warmth into their performances with songs that make you smile, laugh and sometimes shed a tear. You can’t help but want to sing along which is certainly encouraged. Melissa and John play quite regularly in Stouffville and events around the GTA including Newmarket's Music in the Park series, Rhythm on Riverwalk, Charity Events at Southlake Regional Healthcare Centre, Newmarket's Walk for ALS, various Relay for Life events, and a handful of restaurant venues.
 

The Twangsters

The Twangsters have logged thousands of kilometres and played hundreds of shows all over Southern Ontario over the past several years. At the fairs and festivals and in the clubs, the band has honed a signature sound that features a solid rhythm section, tight vocal harmonies and some spectacular twin guitar pyrotechnics. Be sure to stop by and chat with the band after the show - like our Facebook page - and become part of the “Twangster Family”. See you at the show!

 

 

 

Wen Zhao - Silk Pipa Ensemble

Wen Zhao a Chinese Pipa (lute) musician will be performing with her students Jessica Zhang, Kylie Hu and Monica Xiao. Wendy Wen Zhao is an internationally acclaimed Pipa virtuoso, a sensitive and lyrical performer. She is a Pipa tutor in the Music Department of York University. Her musical influence is in both Canada and England. She combines eastern musical tradition with western classical to perform in different styles. 

The Beresfords

Hailing from Aurora, ON, brother-sister duo Brendan and Shannon Beresford have been surrounded by music their entire lives. Since the beginning of their professional music career, The Beresfords have drawn respective comparisons to many of their idols, including: Stevie Nicks, Dixie Chicks and Brad Paisley.

 

Their debut self-titled EP skyrocketed to #4 on the Canadian Country iTunes charts in June of 2017 and has helped to put them on the map as up and coming artists in the Canadian Country music scene.

Laya Bhava Dancers

The Mike Burns Andrew Heathcote Band - Local artists Mike Burns & Jonathan Ison of TREO and Andrew Heathcote & Bruce Bamford of WhatAboutBob come together and feature classic rock from the past 40 years. While performing at the 2018 Stouffville Strawberry Festival, the band will be leading the festival’s 'Made in Canada Celebration' as it performs all Canadian classics from some of Canada’s greatest artists; Great Big Sea, Bare Naked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Jim Cuddy, Tragically Hip, Bruce Cockburn and Murray McLaughlin to name a few.

School of Rock Markham House Band

The School of Rock Markham House Band - The School of Rock Markham House Band is a group of talented musicians who range in age from 11 to 17 and is made up of select members of our performance program who have the opportunity to provide live musical entertainment for many local community events as well as out of town gigs and tours. 

This house bands have had the opportunity to play The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Lincoln Hall in Chicago, Summerfest (the world’s largest music festival) in Milwaukee, the Hard Rock Resort in Punta Cana and Morey’s Adventure Pier in Wildwood New Jersey. 

Now, you have a chance to listen to this amazing band in Strawberry Festival. 

Stouffville District Secondary School Dixieland Band

The SDSS Dixieland Band is a small ensemble of high school students from grades 10-12 dedicated to performing early jazz music. Popular in New Orleans at the start of the 20th Century, Dixieland music has grown over the years to become a fan favourite among jazz lovers. The SDSS Dixieland Band recreates that early jazz style and will get you tapping your toes and clapping your hands to the familiar sounds of New Orleans.

Raimee Stevens

Raimee Stevens is a guitarist and plays a number of styles from country rock to classical guitar. His set at The Strawberry Festival will focus on classical guitar music.

David Donar and Brian O'Sullivan

While David is one of our newer members he is quickly becoming an accomplished fingerstyle country blues player. David is also known for his rapport with audiences and his dapper attire. David will be accompanied by YDFGA coordinator Brian O'Sullivan.

Paul Stratas

Paul Stratas has been a dedicated member of the YDFGA for a number of years. He is one of the few members in our group to have built his own guitar. He uses fingerstyle guitar technique to cover popular songs from the classic age of folk and rock. Paul is one of two dentists in our group.

Django Djunkies

The Django Djunkies are a Stouffville based gypsy jazz ensemble. They play the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli - European swing jazz from the 1920s - 1950s. This band will be sure to get your feet tappin' and may even inspire some swing dancers if they happen by.

Erwin Schack

Erwin is a co-founder of the YDFGA. His fingerstyle renditions include pieces by some of the best know fingerstyle guitar players in the world - Bruce Cockburn, Tommy Emmanuel, Bob Evans and others. He is also well known for fingerstyle versions of popular and romantic songs such as This Girl's in Love With You by Burt Bacharach. Erwin can often by heard busking at The Toronto Beaches.

Des McCann

Des McCann is a long time member if the York/Durham Fingerstyle Guitar Association. He is known for his own compositions as well as for covering the music of Bruce Cockburn, Tommy Emmanuel and others.

Brian O'Sullivan

When not organizing activities for the YDFGA, Brian splits his time between two gypsy swing groups - The Django Djunkies and The Huronia Hot Strings. He is active in the Stouffville open mic. scene and teacher guitar lessons from his home in Stouffville.

The Kuah Collective

June 30, 2018

The Kuah Collective is comprised as professional level jazz musicians many of whom teach at Long and McQuade in Markham. Their music is funky and creative. They play clubs such as The Cornerhouse in Stouffville and enjoy performing at community events.
