The Latcham Gallery and the Whitchurch-Stouffville Strawberry Festival are excited to announce the first annual

The Art of Recycling Competition

This competition is designed to highlight the creative talents of Whitchurch-Stouffville area students and increase environmental awareness and good stewardship through recycling.

The History of Recycled Art

Using recycled materials in art has a long history among artists and is commonly called found art or readymade, which describes art created from found objects that are not normally considered art and are often modified.

Another sub-genre of found art is known as trash art or junk art. These artworks are made of discarded materials (garbage or recycled materials).

Create an art piece in any style—prints, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, architecture, wearable art and others that defy categorization—using at least 70% recycled materials—discarded and reusable plastics, glass, metals, papers, fabrics, wood and/or rubber.

Art supplies such as glue, paint, markers, nails and staples are allowed.

Your piece of art can be two-dimensional like a mixed media collage or fabric assemblage or three-dimensional like a sculpture or mobile, but no larger than 5' x 3' x 3'.

Enter for your chance to win up to $100 cash!

Prizes awarded to a Category and a People's Choice winner at each level.
